Having an Ele-Fun Time

I tried this style out before but it didn't turn out as good as I wanted it to. A fellow alumnus has been doing this paper cutout style lately with his Disney Villains series and is just killing it. It made me want to revisit this technique so I did it with the next sketch I did. So here it is! I'm happy that it turned out better than my previous attempt.

Wicked?

I've been following Sketch Dailies for a while now. Every day they have a different topic and artists all around the world can post their artwork. It's really inspiring and motivating seeing some of the work on there. I figured I stop watching from the sidelines and give one a try. The topic was wicked witch

Youtuber

I wanted to play with this style along with that chalk look. I wasn't really going for likeness on this but if you can figure her out, Kudos to you! There are some "elements" *hint hint* of her previous signature look in there. If you follow youtube musicians, this should be an easy one for you.

Dirty 30

I used to do Bday flyers for my company where I'd chop off  the birthday person's head from photos and put them on movie posters or something funny. These flyers would be put up on the fridge in the break room for the whole month. Last year, after over a year of doing this I decided to retire and let other people have fun creating these.

It was my coworker's 30th Birthday on Sunday and I thought I'd come out of retirement and do something special for him. This is the first time I drew the whole flyer. He's a huge Raider fan and we try to set up a a game every year for coworkers to attend. I root for the Raiders and Niners but I'm Dolphins fan. He gives me crap about that every now and then so I thought it would be funny to crash his flyer haha.

This is the 11x17 poster I gave him personally with minor tweaks. It felt good knowing it made his day. RRRRaaaaaiderrrrssss!

Cardinal

My first year at work I used to have 10-15 minutes in the morning before I got a project to work on. As I waited I used to do quick sketches of random animals. Last week, I was going through a flash drive I haven't used in a couple years. I found a sketch of this cardinal along with a couple others. When I drew it, I had planned on painting it but I guess I forgot and just never got to it.

I was determined to finish off what "past" version of me intended to do. So here it is! Still needs some more work but at least I finally got around to painting it.

Birthday Card

This was done for a coworker's bday card. Because our team was smaller this year, I figure I'd do something simple BUT still BIG. I think the best part of the card was what was inside. Inside was birthday wishes from most our Product Development dept (Artists and Coordinators) from Past and Present. It was a lot of fun because I got to chat with previous artists and hear a bit of their stories. Made me think of another future idea... maybe a Team Reunion Happy Hour? That would be awesome to share stories for a couple hours. We'll See...

Portrait Blend

It was fun seeing a lot of fellow alumni at APE Con this year. A lot of my former classmates had their own booths selling some of their artwork/products. It looked like a lot of fun and it got me thinking, maybe I should try it out next year. I'm not really sure what I'd want to sell yet though. Everyone seemed to have a theme or set style. Whether I do it or not next year, I was inspired and motivated. Here's something I did for fun and to try out.

Wacky Wombats

In Fantasy Football, you need an even amount of teams. At work we had an odd number, so I had to create a team. I named this team the "Wacky Wombats". Its comprised of average players that no one wanted after week 2 and is supposed to be an easy win for everyone. For fun, I wanted to create an avatar for the team and WHAT HAPPENS this week?? A Crrrraazy Fluke in which they beat the top team in our league. Projected to have only 66 points, they came out furious and got 138 points! Ah, Fantasy Football. Gotta love it. SO unpredictable!!

Fueled By Boba!!

I've been in a Fantasy Football league with my brothers, cousins and a couple of their girlfriends for a couple years now. Its been a whole lot of fun! What's cool is that you don't need to know football that much to have fun. By the end though, if you get into it week to week, you'll start knowing your football players.

I wanted to bring that same camaraderie and trash talk fun to work so I created a league. I didn't want to reuse my team name so I came up with FUELED BY BOBA. Basically, I like Boba (pearl) Milk drinks. I thought it would be fun to do my team avatar of Boba Fett with a Boba drink. A Twofer!

Night Owl

This came from a simple sketch I did Friday after work. The last hour or so of that day I was asked to do some Owl designs for a product. When I got home, I ended up sketching this whimsical owl that I ended up sort of liking.

Portrait Study

A portrait study I did to see how close I can get to making a digital painting look real. Lets just say I need more practice with Corel Painter.

Ariel

A couple of weeks ago a friend of mine showed me a drawing her nephew had drawn. I thought it was a pretty cool drawing.  The next thing that came to my mind was these painting some artists did of children's drawings. Those artists would paint them in a realistic way making sure to stay  true to the drawing. I always wanted to try it but never had a drawing I could use. Over the weekend I decided to give it a try. I added some extra details here and there, but stayed within the shapes drawn. Such a fun exercise to do!
